Huawei's new highend phone line up succeeding the P60 series Pura 70 series, has gone on sales yesterday on Apr 18 in China. With failure to stop Huawei from obtaining high end chip, US department of commerce plan of forcing the Korean and Japanese suppliers to cut off auxiliary chip supply to choke Huawei has once again failed.

It feature an improved Kirin 9000S dubbed as Kirin 9010. Still manufactured with the same 7 nm process as Kirin 9000S. A newer process of 5 nm will be used for Kirin 9100 later this year.

Still Hi36A0 GFCV121, Note the memory chips are no longer SK Hynix chip from Korea. They're replaced by domestic memory chips.

Geekbench 6 score of 1447 for single-core, and 4765 for multi-core represent a 10% improvement place its performance between Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8+.

Another benchmark that give overall score for CPU, GPU, memory, and UX.

Battery said to outlast Mate 60 by one hour with 12% remaining. Consider Pura 70 battery is 5200 mAh vs Mate 60's 5000 mAh.

Aside from the Kirin CPU, the memory chip is from CXMT, SSD from YMTC, CMOS chip from Hivac, its indigenization reach virtually 100%. It goes further than Mate 60 series by rooting out the Korean memory and SSD chips, and Japanese CMOS chips.

Of course, by rooting out Korean memory and SSD chips etc, it really mean US has banned them from selling the chips to Huawei. So it end up the Korean and Japan companies are forced to lose business in China.

How much will they lose? HiSilicon has made a come back in Q4 of 2023 by shipping 6.8 million chips, shipment surged by 5121%, revenue reached USD 7 billion, increase of 244 folds. This year 2024, HiSilcon is expected to ship 100 million Kirin chips, not counting the AI chips Ascend. And piggy back on Huawei's comeback with 100% indigenization, Chinese memory, SSD, CMOS chip maker CXMT, YMTC and Hivac etc. can expect to ship even more than 100 million units of their chips, at least half of them are business lost by the Korean and Japanese chip makers.

Huawei filed the SAQP (Self-Aligned Quadruple Patterning) patent, aka multi-exposure technique, with a secretive partner. If the US don't know who is it, then it's quite unlikely to be SMIC. Actually that partner is SiCarrer, a state owned company based in Shenzhen, Since US sanction, Huawei is no longer just a telecommunication and consumer electronic company, It is now also a software and hardware company that delve in EDA, ERP, operating system to chip fabrication.

Huawei expected to use the new 5 nm process to fabricate the Kirin 9100 chip with more cores than its predecessor, increased frequency for the mid and high end core, thus improving performance by 25%-32% while reducing energy consumption. It will also feature a new GPU, which represent a significant upgrade. So we may expect Kirin 9100 to debut in the Mate 70 series at the end of 2024.

Intel license to sell CPU to Huawei will expire by July this year. Incidentally around this time, Chinese government will ban Intel and AMD CPU to be used in government infrastructure.

US want to kill Huawei and stop Chinese innovation, but it can't. China economy is already larger than US by PPP terms. According to IMF forecasr, Chinese growth will outpace the entire G-7 combined in the next 5 years, in other word China will add more value to its economy than the G-7 could add to theirs combined in the next 5 years. Chinese companies can rely on Chinese market not only for survival, but also for rapid growth. Even better if US forced American, European, Japanese, Korean tech companies out of Chinese market and hand their market share to Chinese companies.

And in terms of Chinese companies ability to innovate, US didn't get it right to begin with. With large market, high STEM output, and especially a US led tech blockade, Chinese companies will have no lack of fund, resource, market nor incentive to innovate into the future. With US enforced decoupling, Chinese companies will fill in the void left by the western countries.

Example of Huawei innovation in car AI is their ADS (Advanced Driving System). Chery is one of the latest collaborator integrating the ADS into their Luxeed S7 EV model.

Auto parking demonstration is just one of many ADS automated driving feature. Note that the driver is on the left seat, as shown above.
